Bimota Team Manager Roda reflects on 2025 so far - "We have been able to perform better than we had expected"

Despite limited preseason testing time and 2025 being the KB998 Rimini’s first season in the competition, the team has distinguished itself in the thick of the running order with some notable highlights

Bimota’s return to the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship competition this season has been one of 2025’s most interesting storylines. After more than 10 years out of the Championship and not a podium in more than 25 years, Bimota has shown promise in their return season, consistently finishing within the points. Last time out, at Misano, Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) claimed the team’s first podium since Anthony Gobert back in 2000. Team Principal Guim Roda gave his views on how his cohort is managing the new project.

RETURN TO PODIUM GLORY: “It’s a big satisfaction for all the team, but especially for the Bimota guys who have been involved with the factory for many years, up and down through good and bad moments”

While Bimota’s level has been solid since Philip Island -perhaps stronger than even Roda himself predicted- Alex Lowes's Tissot Superpole Race podium at Misano is a concrete testament to their hard work. On their season so far, and their podium achievement, Roda said: “[I think we’ve been doing] Really good, honestly, we have been able to perform a little better than we had expected. The way we developed this bike with Bimota and Kawasaki over the last year has provided us with a package that’s ready to go on track. It hasn’t been easy. Alex and Axel have been riding incredibly, achieving good results, and a podium at Misano has been a very good confirmation of this. Now we need to keep working. It’s a big satisfaction for all the team, but especially for the Bimota guys who have been involved with the factory for a long time, many years, up and down through good and bad moments with Bimota over the last 20 years. So, for them to be in the Championship and achieve this incredible result, I know they’re much happier than the rest of the team, and we’re happy to see their enthusiasm.

WHAT’S NEXT: “We need to continue developing the bike, the target is not podiums, it is top five. We need to be realistic with the high level of competition”

Now halfway into the season, the Spanish Team Manager looked ahead to how they plan to improve their bike from here. Roda said: “We plan to continue, the Championship still has the second half of the season remaining. We need to continue developing the bike; the target is not podiums, it is the top five. We need to be realistic in the face of high-level competition, so we will continue to work, especially to explore solutions that we can bring in the future, in 2026 and 2027, in conjunction with the production bike, to enhance the bike's performance. There are many aspects we can improve. The engine is difficult to improve with how the rules are set up, so this is something that must be linked with mass production and superconcessions, but we can not hide the reality that we need some more horsepower to help us compete with the other manufacturers. Kawasaki is helping us with that.”

English rider Alex Lowes and Italian rider Axel Bassani each deserve their fair share of credit according to Roda, the Team Principal complimented the pair for their willingness to commit to the project while it may not leave them competitive in the short term, something that has turned out as something of a pleasant surprise for all three. On his team’s riders, Roda said: “They’re doing very well, they’ve both accepted that the project is a young one and have put aside their own targets of winning races to take part with us. Both can win races. They are riders with the skills to fight for the podium in every race, I have no doubt. I am sure that we have two of the top five riders in this Championship. There are Bulega and Toprak, but immediately after them, I know we have the two best riders. This gives us pressure not to fail them, and to give them the best package possible so that they can accomplish our team goals of top five, but also their goals, which is to attain podiums.”
